But I found out a couple years ago I can keep the library on my internal drive while all the music it references is stored on an external drive.Īlso, for piece of mind I guess I also am using almost exclusively lossless audio (AIFF) and fairly large images (500x500 - 1000x1000) for album art (all PNG). This auction includes 1x iFlash Quad Micro-SD Adapter which will allow you to convert your iPod Video (5th/5.5 gen) and iPod Classic (6th/6.5/7th Gen) from using a hard drive to using either 1x or 2x or 3x or 4x Micro-SD cards (Micro SD cards not included). Specifically, any ipod that came from Apple w/ a 30 GB drive, only got 32 MBs of RAM. Apple must have known this would be a problem, as the smaller capacity ipods have 32MBs of RAM while the larger ones have 64MBs. However not all boards are created equal. I originally hated the idea of having an iTunes library on my computer because my internal hard drive is only 1tb. The limit is defined by the amount of RAM on the logic board. iTunes can also rebuild its database any time an issue arises, the iPod cannot. This is because iTunes is way better at organizing all the data than the iPod itself. If you build an iTunes library first, then sync it to the iPod then your iPod it can avoid this issue entirely as well as any issues you may have with missing album art (I used to have that problem a lot as well). The best way to fix it if you don’t want an iTunes library on your computer is to only add 1 or 2 albums to the iPod at a time so it has time to process it all individually.

I used to do this and it’s the only time I’ve had this problem. If you drag and drop then the iPod has to create its own database with its own software, on its on hardware. Did you drag and drop your music to the iPod, or are you syncing it from an iTunes library on the computer? I’m not sure if they’ve fixed it yet, or if the SD version of iFlash has similar issues. I put it together about a year ago and had to use a special build of Rockbox, as the stock kernel would get SATA errors on the SSD. Automatic quad mode adapter use with 1 MicroSD card in standard mode and 2 or 3 or 4 MicroSD cards in mixed JBOD (Just a Bunch Of Disks) mode for even greater storage capacity.

I’ve had this problem a couple of times before. I have an iPod 5G with an iFlash mSATA adaptor and 480G mSATA drive. Description Product Code: iFLSHQD For those seeking solid state storage capabilities for their iPod, the iFlash-Quad allows you to install and use MicroSD cards.
